As the Great-niece of Dr. Smith, I know in my heart how much he loved RUST. Thank you Dr. Edwards and RUST for always being there for him. He was a strict disciplinarian but very much loved by us all. As the patriarch of our family, he will be missed.

My sincere sympathy to Dr. Earnest A. Smith Family. He was a person like David "who served the purpose of God in his own generation."
Much Love to you.

I express my sincere sorrow at the passing of Dr. Earnest A. Smith. On October 11, 2001, Rust College chose me as the Lecture Series Speaker, giving me the opportunity to meet and help honor Dr. Smith and his wife, Milverta G. Smith. To the students, staff, Dr. and Mrs. Beckley, and Mrs. Milverta Smith and family, my deepest sympathy, I express to you. I still feel so blessed that your institution chose me to help honor such a great man. He was not only a great man representing a past President of Rust College, but he was also a great man of God. All who knew him will miss his presence. I believe that Dr. Earnest A. Smith served the purpose of God in his own generation. Sincerely, Shirley E.
